The philosophy hidden in the name

MIDI: "Musical Instrument Digital Interface", a standardized technical communication protocol that connect a wide variety of electronic musical instruments, computers, and related audio devices for playing, editing, and recording music.

VOX: The Latin word for "Voices".

In our context, MIDI symbolizes the digital world that Arhan has built over 35 years using computers, hardware and software synthesizers, and studio equipment —a world where he crafted what he calls his "Old Wave" musical style. The "VOX" in VOXX represents Yağmur, who breathes life into the songs with her magical voice. The final "X" in VOXX serves as a reminder that our entire team, who contributes to the works created by the MIDIVOXX duo, is always by our side; it signifies that without them, we would always be incomplete.

The journey started some 35 years ago...

Arhan began creating music digitally in 1989 when he received his first keyboard, and life was never the same again. Influenced by every life event, love, sorrow, regret and disappointment he experienced, he constantly retreated to his home studio equipment to pour his emotions into the keys, turning the melodies he recorded on his computer into songs whenever he found the chance. Driven by the storms these experiences created in his soul, he eventually began writing lyrics both in Turkish and English. By continuously creating fresh melodies and lyrics, he built the skeletal structure of over 40 tracks. Local music authorities encouraged him after listening to his work and invited him and his band members to youth festivals and they have performed in numerous enjoyable live performances. However, due to Arhan’s choice to climb the career ladder in corporate life, these hidden treasures were relegated to the background and they could not escape their fate as being mere hobby pieces.

The danger of obsolescence

As time passed, technologies, platforms, hardware, and software underwent rapid changes. The computers, operating systems, and tools used to create those songs no longer existed, nor did the melodic, emotion-filled, and meaningful songs of the past. As a former DJ, the monotony and corruption in modern music where old tracks are simply recycled and re-released as "new" versions made Arhan deeply unhappy. He sought solace in the geniuine music on his old vinyl records. He could not accept that his own compositions were destined to be buried in the dusty pages of history as digital files on a hard drive.

Awakening and transformation

In 2019, Arhan made a sharp decision. Choosing to forgo the glittering corporate life and professional career he had built, he took action to spend the rest of his life bringing his songs —hidden in the dusty "Pandora's Box"— to light and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. With great difficulty and effort, he migrated the tracks to modern software. He adapted the custom sounds he had created on his keyboards for digital environments. He repaired his old, vintage keyboards and brought them back to his side. He updated his technical skills and equipment with the latest technology. It was as if the tracks were returning to life after many years through musical "CPR." During this stage, realizing his songwriting had matured, he began completing Turkish lyrics alongside the original English ones.

Past meets the future

Since these songs were originally written between 1989 and 1999, they reached an ideal maturity by blending catchy retro melodies, rich harmonies, and naive, emotional lyrics characteristic of that era with the full richness of today’s sound and recording technologies. The most rewarding aspect was that they were entirely original compositions. No song relied on ready-made samples, stems, or covers of old tracks. It was as if over 40 tracks, placed in a time capsule, were being beamed into the present day along with the musicality, spirit, and emotions of their original era.

The critical threshold and beyond

By the end of 2024, the tracks were getting structurally ready to meet listeners. Before the debut, the copyrights were secured, and missing lyrics were completed. Shifts in global music trends suggested that the time was finally right for these hidden treasures to emerge. Although Arhan had patiently overcome every technical hurdle, one major obstacle remained: "a magical vocalist" who could convey the emotional weight of that specific era in both English and Turkish. Alongside his close friend and manager Denizcan, who joined him on this journey, a feverish search began both locally and abroad. Finally, through a miraculous coincidence that could be described as a "surprise of fate," Arhan met Yağmur —the magical voice who could best help him realize his 35-year dream. Now, MIDI and VOXX have joined forces as MIDIVOXX, working day and night to crack open "Pandora's Box" and revive the hidden gems from the dusty pages of history and present it to their audience "one track at a time".
